Short description
The Public institution 'Museums and Galleries' is a complex public institution consisting of several organizational units: the Homeland Museum, Galleries ‘Nikola I’ and ‘Ilija Sobajic’,   Old Town - Anderva and the Joint Affairs Service. The museum and galleries are located in the Castle of King Nikola. The Homeland museum consists of four collections: archaeological, historical-artistic, ethnographic and historical. Of particular importance is the archaeological material from the Red Rock. The total area of the Museum is 1300m2. Gallery "Nikola I" is 130 m2 and the gallery "Ilija Sobajic" is 40 m2. They have an extremely valuable collection of art exhibits. In addition to exhibitions, other events are taken place in the galleries, such as concerts, literary evenings, promotions and other events. PI 'Museums and Galleries', independently or in cooperation with other institutions and individuals, has a variety of cultural and artistic programs.
The museum was founded in 1958.year and is located in the building of the Castle, which is itself a cultural property of national importance. The Castle was built during the time of the Prince, later the King, Nikola I Petrovic. The museum was designed by Croatian architect Dr Josip Silovic Slade, whose works are the urban plan of the new town - Niksic and the Emperor’s Bridge on the River Zeta. The castle was made in a neo-renaissance style. It was completed in 1900.year as the Cathedral Church of St. Vasilije Ostroski, located in the immediate vicinity. When it was built, the castle represented the crown of the new town and was bigger and more beautiful than all that were built in Montenegro until then.
The museum exhibition is located on the floor of the Castle. The material is presented in chronological order.

Description

With industrial production of synthetic colors for textile, which marks the 20th century, discontinue the use of plant colors completely, and has survived to this day only in remote villages. Today, there is noticeable interest in the use of natural colors in the processes of coloring of textile of different origins, due to modern requirements related to environmental protection and human health, and the increasingly frequent occurrence of allergic reactions.
The process of coloring is ecologically pure technology, and the extracts of pigments of plants are obtained from renewable sources. The colors obtained in this way are unusually beautiful, and their mutual combination creates harmonious artistic units, which can be seen in the ethnological collections of our museums. Intuitive and lucid solutions in the use of available materials such as ash, schnapps, jawbone, cedars ... in combination with herbal pigments, have led to the durability of colored materials, which can not be overcome even through centuries of practice. After the final exhibition, PI 'Museums and galleries' Niksic completed the collection of works of art in the process of work. The objective of the project is to preserve and affirm a part of the rural crafts sector of Montenegro (processing of wool, spinning, weaving, knitting, embroidery, making of felt and cloth ...) and its use for the purpose of contemporary art and design.

Description
The International Day of Light should enable awareness raising at the global level, the great role that light and light-based technologies have in the lives of citizens of the world in the fields of science, technology, culture, education and sustainable development, it is said in the UNESCO proclamation. With this project, Niksic and Montenegro would join the global action, and the project itself contributes to the promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of Niksic. The significance of the project would be a stronger positioning of Niksic on the cultural and artistic map of Montenegro and the region. The idea of this project is to organize a series of exhibitions in locations of cultural and historical significance in the framework of the International Day of Light, where artists will promote the cultural heritage of the city through the most varied expressions and techniques (video, lighting installations, etc.).

Description
Within the Creative Europe project, we are competing with the idea of presenting Crvena stijena through archaeological material. Crvena stijena is a submerge in the territory of the Municipality of Niksic and represents the most important prehistoric site in Montenegro with 31 explored cultural layers - from premousterian to bronze age. Contemporary research that has been carried out since 2004 in cooperation with universities in Michigan and Minnesota (USA) focuses on the research of the Middle Palaeolithic layers, which are about 10 m of thickness and according to which Crvena stijena is internationally known. The idea of the project is the presentation, through the exhibition, of a representative archaeological material, excavated during the first archaeological research of the site, during the 50's and 60's of the 20th century. In this regard, the selected material from all epochs will be presented at exhibitions organized in cooperation with scientific and museum institutions in some of the EU countries, which are known centers of prehistoric archeology: Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Croatia and Romania.
