Description

«Waste-to-Art»
The purpose of international art project Waste-to-ART and urban art biennale BruhtART is the renewal of social consciousness through urban sculpture development and culture exchange on national and international levels in innovative and relevant ways. The project’s name "Waste-to-ART" correlates with the modern trend waste-to-energy or energy-from-waste, which is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from the primary treatment of waste. If WtE is a form of energy recovery, WtA is a form of cultural energy recovery.
The project develops this trend both in a literal meaning and in the relevant sociocultural way. The waste is transformed into powerful artistic energy that is communicated to a large audience (with its active participation in the activities) through the works of art, educational and art activities involving modern methods of engaging target groups.
The international art festival «BruhtART» (Khmelnytskyi) has an ambitious goal aimed at the future of art and city life: the development of urban sculpture at the national and international level and the simultaneous formation of an updated cultural image of the Khmelnytskyi city. The uniqueness of the artistic event lies in the fact that the material, offered to the artists for processing, is the raw material for recycling – scrap metal. Techniques for implementing ideas are assumed to be diverse: welding, soldering, forging, metal casting, galvanizing, and the like.
Preference is given to the projects:
firstly, interactive and kinetic, involving the audience to direct communication with the artistic work and, optionally, to its direct creation/animation;
secondly, multimedia in the sense of using additional means of expressiveness, such as light, sound, color, elements of land art, etc.;
thirdly, using local facilities of alternative and renewable energy sources of sunlight, wind, water;
fourthly, having a clear and distinct idea, understandable to different social, national, gender and age groups of the population.
The theme of the first festival in 2020 – «BruhtART» is proposed in the location of the city park. Working on the topic, the participants are invited to consider from an artistic point of view the problems and attractions of modern cities and their inhabitants, harmonization of civilization and nature. The festival is planned to be held regularly every two years in the city of Khmelnitsky, changing the themes and locations, but not the main material: the recycling of scrap metal in artistic works. In the framework of the artistic event, it is planned to carry out the open creative workshops, workshops of traditional handicraft for metal processing, a wide educational program (lectures, seminars, master classes, coworking, film screenings), a program on contemporary music, dance and performances, and further mobile exhibitions of photos, videos and 3-d models of the artworks in Ukraine and abroad.
