CROSS-Sectoral

The purpose of the Cross-sectoral strand is to reinforce collaboration between different cultural and creative sectors (CCS) in order to help them address the common challenges they face and find innovative solutions.

Creative innovation labs

Following the pilot actions “bridging culture and audiovisual content through digital”, the new scheme “Innovation Labs” support the development of innovative tools, models and solutions applicable in the audiovisual and other cultural and creative sectors.

Expected results:

  • Improve the competitiveness of the European audiovisual and other cultural and creative sectors through cross sector collaboration;

  • Increase knowledge transfer between different sectors of creative industries;

  • Increase the visibility, availability and diversity of European content in the digital age;

  • Improve business models and use of data;

  • Increase the potential audience of European content in the digital age.

Max. co-funding rate: 60 %, max. No limit of the grant amount.

Proposals must be submitted by a consortium of min. 3 legal entities from at least 2 different countries participating in the Creative Europe Programme, – the consortium must present a diverse range of expertise across several cultural and creative sectors, including audiovisual.

News media

Through its cross-sectoral strand, Creative Europe 2021-2027 addresses for the first time the News Media sector, to support media literacy, quality journalism, media freedom and pluralism. Two main calls are published yearly:

NEWS-Journalism partnerships funding support seeks to protect news media sectors of special relevance to democracy and civic participation. These include local and regional media, community media, investigative journalism and organisations delivering public interest news.

Topic 1 Journalism Partnerships – Collaborations Call aims to help the wider European news media sector become more sustainable and resilient by supporting cross-border media collaborations.

Topic 2 Journalism Partnerships – Pluralism Call recognises that independent media play a crucial role in societies and contribute to upholding the essential principles of media freedom and pluralism.

Media Literacy Projects Support will encourage knowledge sharing and exchanges on media literacy policies and practices to enable the development of innovative cross-border media literacy initiatives and communities across Europe, in a continuously changing digital media landscape and taking into account current user behaviour among various age groups.

Additional studies are foreseen to support the news media sector, aiming at monitoring and defending media freedom and pluralism.
